KPD Homicide Unit detectives are investigating an overnight shooting near N. Sixth Avenue that injured two people.

At around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, KPD officers located a gunshot victim near the intersection of Summit Hill Drive and Hall of Fame Drive. The victim, an adult man who was transported to the UT Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, reported that the shooting happened in the area of First Creek Park.

Officers responded to First Creek Park and located numerous spent and unspent shell casings in the vicinity. Around that same time, officers were notified that a second gunshot victim, also an adult man, had arrived at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center for treatment for a gunshot wound. That victim’s injuries are also believed to be non-life-threatening.

The investigation so far has determined that there was a large gathering of people at First Creek Park when gunfire erupted for reasons that remain under investigation.

Since the shooting occurred, Homicide Unit detectives have interviewed at least a dozen possible witnesses. As of now, no suspects have been arrested or charged, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been determined.
